CHAPTER SIX

Maurice punched Crystal's name, when it popped up in his phone's address book; the screen curved under the pressure of his finger.

She answered, "Hello."

"Hi," he responded. He heard a familiar metallic screech in the background.

"Sorry about the noise. I'm on the trolley." She paused. "Are you already at my shop?"

"No, not yet." His anger at his missing physical therapist increased. "I can't make it."

There was no response.

"Crystal?" Did the connection fail?

"I'm sorry. I'm here." Disappointment filled her voice. "I was looking forward to spending the day with you."

"My mom's physical therapist didn't show." He craned his neck to look out of his window and down the street. Maybe she would appear at any moment. "I'll have to help mom with her session today."

"Can I help?"

"Help?" Did he hear her right? Was she offering to spend the day with him and his mother? "I don't—"

"Sorry, I wasn't trying to intrude."

"No, I just—I didn't think you'd want to spend your day here with us. Stuck inside while I help my mom with her stretching and exercises."

"If you don't think your mom would mind, I'd love to come over. I could give your mom a massage." She laughed. "I have magic hands."

Magic hands. He would love to know what they would feel like on his body. Her tiny hands working their way from his shoulders over his chest down his stomach—He really needed to get a handle on his thoughts. They were taking over. He gave her the address. "You're sure I'm not putting you out?"

"Positive. I'll grab some stuff from my shop and I'll come right over."
